Vision
A just, inclusive society where every LGBTIAQGNC individual lives free from violence, exploitation, discrimination, and exclusion.
Survivor-led • Feminist • East Africa
Advancing protection, justice, and community resilience for LGBTIAQGNC survivors across East Africa.
Who We Are
Afrinalia is a survivor-led, feminist organisation committed to ending violence, exploitation, and modern-day slavery affecting LGBTIAQGNC persons across East Africa.
Founded on the belief that every individual deserves safety, dignity, and equal opportunity, we provide holistic support that moves survivors from immediate rescue to long-term recovery and empowerment.
Our work integrates protection services, community development, advocacy, economic empowerment, and strategic partnerships to address immediate needs and the systemic barriers that perpetuate discrimination and exclusion.
Our Impact
Every intervention at Afrinalia is designed to restore dignity, strengthen resilience, and create sustainable pathways toward independence.
Our Foundation
A just, inclusive society where every LGBTIAQGNC individual lives free from violence, exploitation, discrimination, and exclusion.
To protect, empower, and support LGBTIAQGNC survivors through holistic services, advocacy, community development, and strategic partnerships that promote dignity, resilience, and lasting social change.
Our Programmes
Emergency response, safe shelter, psychosocial support, case management, legal referrals, and survivor-centred recovery services.
Economic empowerment, leadership development, education, awareness creation, and social inclusion initiatives that strengthen communities.
Working with stakeholders to influence policy, strengthen legal protections, and promote human rights for marginalised communities.
Supporting organisations, community leaders, and networks with knowledge, skills, and systems that advance inclusive development.
From Rescue to Recovery
Our integrated approach addresses immediate protection needs while building long-term resilience and opportunities through every stage of recovery.
Why Our Work Matters
Across East Africa, many LGBTIAQGNC individuals face violence, discrimination, trafficking, homelessness, and economic exclusion. Stigma, weak protection systems, and limited access to essential services intensify these challenges.
Physical, emotional, and sexual violence often occurs with limited access to protection.
Stigma and exclusion restrict access to healthcare, education, employment, and justice.
Marginalisation increases vulnerability to exploitation, trafficking, and modern-day slavery.
Family rejection and insecurity leave many without safe housing or stable support systems.
Trauma and isolation require survivor-centred psychosocial care.
Limited opportunities keep many trapped in cycles of poverty and vulnerability.
Institutional and societal inequalities continue to deny equal rights and opportunities.
A Story of Hope
“When I came to Afrinalia, I had lost my sense of safety and belonging. Through shelter, counselling, and support, I found stability and the confidence to rebuild my life. Today, I look to the future with hope.”— Survivor, Transitional Shelter Programme
